Learning connections overview
Albany Creek State High School is committed to providing an inclusive school environment for all students. The Learning Connections Department facilitates the delivery of an inclusive education program for students with disabilities identified under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA 1992).
Reasonable adjustments are provided to students with additional learning needs, with a focus on enabling students to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers. The goal of learning connections is to reduce barriers to learning, and celebrate success for every student.
Students supported by the learning connections team may be identified with a range of disabilities and additional needs. This includes:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Intellectual Disability (ID)
- Vision Impairment (VI)
- Hearing Impairment (HI)
- Physical Impairment (PI)
- Social-Emotional Disorders
- Specific Learning Disorders
The Learning Connections Department works closely with students, families, staff and the broader community, to ensure that students experience success in our school environment, learning alongside their peers. This is achieved through:
- case management
- co-teaching classes
- in-class support
- tutorials (Year 7 and 8)
- literacy support classes
- transition programs
By implementing the Every Student With A Disability Succeeding Plan (DoE 2022-2026), Albany Creek State High School delivers an inclusive program, reflecting high expectations for all students whilst empowering every student to be actively engaged in their learning.
