Our Guidance Officers, Chloe Tarr and Lindsay Bartlett, are fully qualified teachers with postgraduate degrees in education and counselling. They work closely with teachers, parents, community members, external agencies, and other stakeholders to support students’ mental, social, and emotional wellbeing while maximising their educational outcomes. This occurs through evidence-based practices in case management, as well as educational, vocational, and personal counselling.
Our Guidance Officers work within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to Albany Creek State High School’s comprehensive student support and wellbeing framework, which is responsive to the needs of our school community. As part of this framework, our ACCESS team is also available to provide additional wellbeing support, ensuring students have access to a wide range of services to help them navigate challenges and thrive.
Guidance Officers provide confidential services in line with education policies and legislative requirements, offering supportive counselling and referrals to external services where appropriate. They also conduct psychoeducational assessments and offer career development guidance, helping students achieve positive educational outcomes and plan for their future pathways. Additionally, they play a vital role in responding to complex and challenging circumstances, including student protection matters, critical incidents, mental health concerns, and suicide prevention and postvention support.
The Guidance and Counselling Rooms are located at the far end of the Administration Block. These spaces offer valuable resources to assist students with career planning and personal concerns. Students can drop in during breaks or book an appointment with a Guidance Officer. To schedule a meeting, students can also email: 📩 GuidanceOfficer@albanycreekshs.eq.edu.au

Wellbeing – connected to learning
Our young people are growing up in a world driven by new technologies and economic globalisation. Their future success requires a new set of cognitive, social, and emotional skills.
Healthy, confident, and resilient young people who can successfully navigate an increasingly complex world are vital for Queensland’s future.
We know that a supportive environment—one that balances wellbeing and learning—is essential for student success. At our school, the ACCESS team is available to provide dedicated support to students, helping them build resilience, confidence, and the skills needed to thrive.
By responding to individual and group differences, promoting collaborative learning, connecting with students on both an academic and personal level, and teaching essential wellbeing strategies, our teachers and support staff ensure every student has the opportunity to flourish. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all students feel supported in their journey as lifelong learners, ready to embrace their future with confidence.
