Instrumental Music

At Albany Creek State High School we have approximately 190 existing and beginner students in the Instrumental Music Program. Each member of the Instrumental Music Program receives one group lesson per week.  The grouping of these lessons is worked out according to your ability as well as the instrument you play.  Usually you will be placed with other members of a similar standard.

Concerts and competitions are a very important part of our program.  Concerts, both inside and outside the school community, enable students to perform the music that they have spent any hours rehearsing.  This also allows parents, fellow students, teachers and members of the community to see the wonders that our musicians have achieved.

We have ten ensemble groups - Senior Concert Band, Junior Concert Band, Orchestra, Stage Band 1 and 2, String Ensemble 1 and 2, Percussion Ensemble,  Brass Ensemble and Choir. Each of these ensembles rehearse at least once a week before or after school or at lunchtime.

An Instrumental Music Kick start Day is designed as an intensive one day rehearsal, is conducted towards the beginning of each school year with the aim of getting the ensembles playing well together at an early stage.  It also functions as a major social event that helps the Year 7 students feel welcome as a part of the team.  Team work is an essential ingredient for a successful ensemble.

The Instrumental Program at Albany Creek State High School is a vibrant program and students in senior ensembles have the opportunity to participate in national and international tours held biannually.
