Year 9 QUT Experience Day

On the 23 November, 50 Year 9 students were privileged enough to go to the QUT campus at Gardens Point. University students gave us an insight into what life after school was like. Various workshops were available, where students were placed into real world scenarios for their chosen career. Dark Winter was a popular workshop. It was a scenario where a bio terrorist attack was taking place across Australia and students played roles such as journalists, Prime Minister and Premier in order to control the superbug. Zombie Busters was another workshop where students were required to record the heart beats of insects in order to determine which of them carried the bacteria, to stop the rapid spread of the illness. In the Jurassic world activity, students were placed into groups and given a scenario in which they had to create a marketing and publicity scheme to cope with the negative situation and insure that the public has a positive view on Jurassic world. Many other workshops were available such as: become a designer in an hour, the marshmallow challenge, my feet - my future, the day in the life of a university student, create the future now, the things teachers do and many more. This was a wonderful day, a great opportunity and was a day enjoyed by everyone involved.
