Dance Excellence to Perform at the Sydney Opera House

Dance Excellence students recently competed in the Sydney Eisteddfod Section 522 Secondary School Contemporary/Classical Dance Group (Years 7 to 12) against 34 Secondary School items. This team of talented students from Albany Creek State High School were successful in making it into the top eight of the competition and will now compete at the next level in the Gala Final. This event will be held together with the final of the Senior Ballet Scholarship on Sunday, 26 August at 2.30pm on the Concert Hall stage of the Sydney Opera House. This is such a prestigious performing arts event and a lifetime opportunity for these students to compete and perform at this national level on an international stage. There are very few students/dance artists that have the honour of performing at the Sydney Opera House and we are so proud of what these students have achieved. Our Junior Team were also selected as reserve finalist and will be invited to perform at the Opera House if one of the top eight teams is unable to perform.

The item to be perform at the Opera House is titled Ravens and is choreographed by professional dance artist, teacher, choreographer and producer, Jen Murray. Murray’s contemporary work is an original piece with music by composer Ólafur Arnalds.

Dance Excellence students will take to the Sydney Opera House stage to compete for a place at this competition but they are truly winners already. To achieve this standard of performance is commendable and to be acknowledged for the work they have achieved as individual artists and the experience gained through performing as a team is invaluable.
